Boycott Virgin Media before South African ISPs Get the Same Idea
Saturday, 19 April 2008

This is serious and I urge everyone who is anyone to take a look and take a stand before any South African ISP's try to follow what Virgin Media is doing.

The Internet is and always must remain the great leveler. On the internet their has always been a state called, net-neutrality ,  Simply put, Virgin Media wants to infringe on this freedom by making people running sites with the money to pay get faster bandwidth than all of those who cannot pay. The new CEO of Virgin Media, Neil Berkett, has openly stated in an interview that they think net neutrality is "a load of bollocks" and claimed they're already doing deals to deliver some people's content faster than others. They would then put websites and services that don't pay Virgin in the "slow lane", meaning those sites would load slowly and cause most users to give up using them, feeling forced to use whatever Virgin wants to push through their network.

We must act together to stop this as it will be devastating to the internet if we allow it to happens.

Since South Africa follows international trends, all be it slow, my fear is that South African ISPs will follow the model Virgin Media is trying to push down everyones throats. There is already a strong movement by the Internet community to  take a stand on this attack to Internet freedom and I would like to ask  everyone to support it. I won't go into much detail here on my blogg as I think you need to investigate and decide for yourself. Listen to what others are saying, don't just take my word for it.

You can watch this YouTube video called "STOP Virgin: Keep Virgin from destroying the internet " to get an understanding.

Please guys take the time to take a stand, it's happening in Europe, if we let it happen their then it is a sign for ISPs the world over that they can do the same. Let's rise up and take a stand now before it hits South African shores. Send out a clear message that we will BOYCOTT any ISP that tries to impose this kind of bandwidth management on users.

Virgin Media has millions of users and many are now leaving the services of the company for alternatives. If this happens on South African network we have only ourselves to blame.

So please take the time to research this and if you agree, sign the petition . Send a clear message to the world that they should not go down this path, for if they do they will lose their customers.

That is a load of made up stories and you know it.
Everyone should support Virgin Media, it is the door to the future.

No, not everyone needs to support Virgin Media. Many feel that what they want to do is a bad thing for net-neutrality.

But each to their own.
