Well, today is the day after the Property Investor Network - Investor Letting Workshop. I am much relieved and at the same time exhausted. Who would have thought that running a one day workshop could be such an exhilarating and exhausting experience, all in one. The response to the workshop was great. I only expect about 20 people to attend and we had 37 people registered. In general I think our low key, honest approach, sans heavy or pushy sales pitch won at the end of the day.
People were fascinated by the information we gave and incredibly surprised by the number of things they did not know about letting as a property investor. Questions, questions ... we had lots of those. Typically people asked questions when they got a surprise about a point, which was normally something that was in the tenants favor. I think we got the message across, that tenants are not the problem. Instead it is normally the level of management provided by the landlord that is the problem. This in itself was a major mind shift for people as they have always been told that it is the tenant that is the problem. There was much information to cover and we covered it very quickly. So we have also opened online support groups for the people that attended. Hopefully that will provide an ongoing ability to ask questions and improve the value of the investment they have made in attending the workshop. During the second half of the workshop we also had Wayne Lee from Sirius Properties and Philip Viviers from OneTax speaking. As could be expected, people were very interested in the sourcing of investment deals and matters related to property tax and Trusts. After the workshop we had many compliments given and our feedback forms gave us much insight into how we can improve future workshops and ideas on what other workshop types people want. So, now that it is all over and done. I am much relieved and ready to conduct the workshop in Cape Town and Durban.
