Feed the Gator
Saturday, 22 December 2007

Syndication is a big thing, don't know why it does not get used more. That's changing I see, as more websites start showing RSS symbols on their pages. With good cause to, because syndication has the ability to drive large amounts of traffic to ones website.

So I started playing with RSS and soon, as is usual, found myself in the midst of building another website, of course using open source technologies. Only this time the website has practically none of its' own content. All the content is taken from other websites using syndication.

The domain for the website is aptly named FeedGator and it has the job of 'chomping on content' which is retrieved from site syndication feeds using technologies such as RSS, ATOM and OPML. As FeedGator does so, it automatically creates back links to the websites where the content originated from.

Connecting Communities
Wednesday, 19 December 2007

It's been awhile. I've not blogged anything for a few months now. Not that I forgot that I have a blog site, just been to busy. So what have I been up to?

While I have a ton of stuff I can talk about, there's one thing that is grabbing all my attention at the moment. It's called NeighbourPoint.

It's a community support website platform that I plan to launch in 2008. Things are still developing, but today I went live with the platform. The aim of NeighbourPoint is to get residents in neighbourhood communities around South African connected and informed about where they live.

SA Real Estate INVESTOR Magazine Profile
Saturday, 29 September 2007

It is so good to see that the South African real estate investor community is starting to get more organized. We have traditionally been a very distributed bunch of people, everyone unaware of the other. Site like Property Investor Network are going a long way to reshaping our knowledge of the property market in South Africa and giving us new opportunities for networking amongst ourselves. So it is great to see that property investors now also have a South African Magazine focused entirely on Real Estate Investing in South Africa.

The launch of the South African Real Estate INVESTOR Magazine has met with great success and much welcome by property investors and property professionals throughout the industry. The first issue of a magazine is always the hardest and I think Neale Petersen and his team have done an outstanding job. The magazine is comparable with major publications, gives clear accurate information and succeeds in avoiding the hype that surrounds most information presented by other property publications in the South African property industry.

Great Workshop Response
Saturday, 29 September 2007

Well, today is the day after the Property Investor Network - Investor Letting Workshop. I am much relieved and at the same time exhausted. Who would have thought that running a one day workshop could be such an exhilarating and exhausting experience, all in one.

The response to the workshop was great. I only expect about 20 people to attend and we had 37 people registered. In general I think our low key, honest approach, sans heavy or pushy sales pitch won at the end of the day.

StreetWise Letting for Property Investors
Wednesday, 29 August 2007

As spring finally nears, after a Winter we thought was never going to end, our Property Investor Network our online property investor community website now has over 500 members and looks set to grow from strength to strength. As the site grows we are trying different methods to take a free membership base and monetize it by offering services that are of value to property investors.

One of the ways we are trying to help property investors is by providing them with knowledge via the website forum by sharing our knowledge and experience. This has led to the development of an idea we call "StreetWise Property Investing". The concept is to deliver practical knowledge and experience gained through the university of life with academic facts.
