Way to go! Podcasting seems to be all the rage. This revolutionary, home-grown technique by which everyday people are producing audio and video shows on just about every subject imaginable, so that others can download them for easy listening on portable audio players, seems to be everywhere. Now I wonder, can this new medium be applied in technical communications?

If open source projects are to mature they will need documentation that is at least equal to proprietary projects. The problem, at present, is that open source is still stuck in the 'enthusiasts mode'. Yes, it is trying hard to change, but I don't think the traction will take place until thinking turns from a strong source code focus to a more balanced look at developing 'whole products'.

Open source, strategic sourcing and SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture), all three are the hottest topics of the time. Since writing the book 'SYSPRO on SOA' for SYSPRO, a leading vendor of enterprise resource planning software, I have had several speaking engagements. Probably the most important of these engagements has been speaking to SYSPRO customers, but the event that got the most coverage in the media is undoubtably the IDC/BMI-T "'SOA Forum".

When thinking about Africa, science and technology are not the first things that come to mind. Yet, there is some great innovation happening in Africa. So where is it? Finding African science and technology projects is not as simple as it sounds. Not because the projects don't exist, but because there is no central database or directory for them. To find projects you have to search hundres of links and read a plethora of articles and for your effort, only a handful will come to light.

It's deja vu all over again |

Yogi Berra, a former major league baseball player, manager and member of the "Baseball Hall of Fame" said some wonderfully colorful things. Pondering the South Africa property market brings to mind the Yogi quote, "It's deja vu all over again." For any of you who where a part of the technology boom prior to the year 2000, I am sure you will agree that the parties were better before the end of the millennium. After the technology boom bubble bust the property market started to accend. Judging by last years histeria, I guess the bulls left the technology sector where everything is virtual and decided to try something more tangible. Thankfully, it now seems that a sense of reality is starting to take a hold of the property market, but the bulls don't want the property party to end.
