Website for Property Investors
Friday, 23 February 2007
My involvement with property and property investment has led me to open a new website called Property Investor Network.

For a few years now I have been taking part in a web-forum called Ardent. It's a forum where people ask questions about property and property investment. Over the past years, the site has grown to have around 500 members. It's a good website and works well as a forum. However, despite promises by the owner of Ardent to do more than just the forum, it has never gone beyond this point.
With Property Investor Network I hope to replicate the same core forum component but also extend to include extra services.

So far the website provides user registration and single sign-on to all services, including: forum board, property listings, newsletter, networking tool, inline glossary, invite a friend feature and articles.

These services are planned to be offered free to all registered users.

This being the first month since the site went live, much thinking and tuning is going into the site. So far we have come up with many plans for commercial services. One that is very interesting is the rental property management system. We hope to build this system so as to provide an advanced tool for management of rental property. I think we will provide the basic management tool free of charge, but charge for advanced features involving advanced financial calculations.

Other services we are pondering, include deed searches and ITC checks. I think we will need to integrate with external services for these features. We are currently researching such solutions, so if you know of anything, please let me know.

I hope the website will grow at a steady pace this year. Already we have a number of people registered and we sent out our first newsletter last month. We are presently writing a series of articles on "Joburg City Development". The main focus being on the "Density and Nodal Program" for the city.

On the negative side we still don't have people talking on the forum. I think this is going to be solved over time as the site membership grows.
